/Cue Privacy Policy

No account. No sign-up. No analytics. No tracking. No third-party SDKs. No microphone. And, unusually for an app you write in, no copy of what you wrote.

/Cue is a clock that lights up words. Everything it does happens on the device it is installed on, and there is no server in the path because we do not run one.

This is worth being exact about, because most apps you type into do keep what you typed. /Cue does not. Your script lives in memory while the app is open. Close the app and it is gone.

There is no document store, no script library, no history and no autosaved draft. Nothing in the app writes the text of a script anywhere, on the device or off it, which means there is no file for anyone to find later and nothing for us to hand over if we were asked to.

The practical consequence is a support question rather than a privacy one, and it is the most common one we get: keep the script wherever you wrote it, and paste it in. The /Cue support page says the same thing in more detail.

Twenty-four values, in the standard preferences store inside the app's own container. Twenty-three of them are settings and the twenty-fourth is a yes or a no:

• How you like it to read: words per minute, font size, text alignment, where the overlay sits, the focus area and how many lines it dims, mirror mode, and the extra pause after a full stop, an ellipsis, a semicolon, a comma and a paragraph break.
• How it starts: whether the countdown is on and what it counts from.
• Whether you have unlocked it, so a paying user is unlocked on the first frame, offline, before the App Store has answered.

There is nothing personal in that list. It is numbers and switches describing how you like to read, and deleting the app deletes all of it.

/Cue asks for no microphone permission, contains no speech recognition, and never records audio or video. It cannot, and this is not a setting you could turn on by accident: there is no microphone code in the app.

The pace is a clock you set, between 80 and 180 words a minute. That is a design decision rather than a limitation we are apologising for: a prompter that follows your voice has to hear the room, and this one reads at the speed you told it to whether or not you are talking.

It asks for no camera and no photo library either. It shows you words; your camera app does the recording.

While you are reading, iOS can show your progress in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen. That display includes words from your script, because showing you the next few words is the entire point of it.

It is drawn on your phone by iOS and sent nowhere. But it is the one place /Cue puts your words on a screen you are not holding up to your own face, so if you are reading something you would not want the person beside you to see, that is the thing to know. Ending the session removes it.

Not for the script, not for settings, not for a check-in on launch, not for a crash report. The app contains no networking code at all, bundles no third-party libraries that could contain any, and the Mac version runs in the macOS sandbox without a network entitlement, so the operating system would refuse the attempt even if there were one.

The single exception is the purchase, and that is Apple's connection rather than ours: the App Store is asked whether this Apple Account has bought /Cue. See below.

/Cue is free for scripts up to 500 words. Longer scripts need the unlock, which is either a monthly subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase, both through the App Store. Apple handles the payment, not us. We never see your name, your card, your address or your Apple Account.

The app asks the App Store one question, whether this Apple Account has bought /Cue, and the App Store answers yes or no. We receive no purchase record, no email address and no identifier that would let us recognise you. Apple's own privacy policy covers the purchase itself: apple.com/legal/privacy.

• Close the app and your script is gone. There is no separate step and no Clear button, because there is nothing to clear.
• End the reading session to take the Live Activity off your Lock Screen.
• Delete the app and the twenty-four settings go with it. There is no copy anywhere else, because there was never a copy anywhere else.

/Cue is not directed at children, and since it collects no data at all, it collects none from children either.

If /Cue ever changes what it stores or what it sends, this page changes first, with a new date at the top. We will not quietly start collecting something and update the wording afterwards.
