Squeeze compresses images, video and PDFs on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account, and there is nothing to sign in to, so most questions turn out to be about where something went rather than about what went wrong.
Talk to a person
Email hi@slashui.com and you will get a reply from a person, not a ticket number. It helps to say which version of Squeeze and which version of macOS you are on. Squeeze's version is at the top of Settings; macOS's is in Apple menu, About This Mac.
If a specific file fails, saying what kind of file it is and what the row said is usually enough to find it. Please do not send the file itself unless we ask: Squeeze is built so that nobody but you has to see it.
Getting started
Drag images, a video or a PDF onto the window, or use File, Add Files, or paste with Command-V. Pick a preset and press Optimize. You can drop a whole folder and Squeeze will expand it.
Where did my compressed files go?
By default, beside the original, with -web added to the name, so photo.jpg becomes photo-web.avif. Your original is never modified or deleted. You can change where output goes with Settings, Default destination, or per batch in the inspector.
Squeeze asked me to choose a folder. Why?
Because macOS only gave it permission for the one file you opened, not for the folder around it, which is what happens when you open a file with Open With, drop it on the Dock icon, or use the Finder Quick Action. Squeeze cannot create a new file next to it without you choosing that folder once. Choose the folder and it will remember.
What does the free version include?
Every format, every preset and every screen, with a daily allowance of 10 images, 1 video and 2 PDFs. It resets at midnight, local time. Squeeze Pro removes the limit with a one-time purchase: there is no subscription, nothing renews, and it is shared with your family through Family Sharing.
I bought Squeeze Pro and it is asking me to buy it again
Press Restore Purchases, on the unlock screen or in Settings, Restore Purchases. It works without starting a new purchase, and it is what to use on a second Mac or after a reinstall. If it says there is nothing to restore, check you are signed in to the same Apple Account that bought it, including the organiser's account if it came through Family Sharing.
Which formats can it read and write?
- Images in: JPEG, PNG, HEIC and HEIF, TIFF, WebP, AVIF, BMP, GIF, camera raw, PSD, JPEG 2000, OpenEXR
- Images out: AVIF, WebP, JPEG, HEIC, PNG
- Animation: animated GIF and animated WebP become a looping WebM (VP9)
- Video: MP4, MOV, M4V and AVI in, MP4 out, encoded by the hardware encoder in your Mac
- Documents: PDF in, PDF out. The images inside are recompressed and the text stays selectable and searchable
A file came out the same as it went in
That is deliberate. If compressing would have produced a larger file than the original, Squeeze keeps the original and labels the row Original rather than quietly shipping you something worse. It is common with files that are already well compressed.
The estimates have a tilde in front of them
Before a file is processed the size is an estimate, shown as ~2.4 MB. Once it has run, the tilde disappears and the number is what the file actually weighs.
How do I turn on the Finder Quick Action?
System Settings, General, Login Items and Extensions, Finder Extensions, then switch on Squeeze. Right-click any file in the Finder afterwards and it appears under Quick Actions.
Does Squeeze send my files anywhere?
No. Compression happens on your Mac, and there is no analytics or tracking of any kind. The details are in the Squeeze privacy policy.
